The Answer to Russian Discrimination Against Gays

Hello Dear Readers

Who here knows why the UN is important to the US and the world? Who here knows why the GOP and others are opposed to it's existence? Well I'm about to tell you.

1) The UN, why was it created?
2) What was it's standards modeled after?
3) Why are the GOP and other extremists against the UN?

1)The UN, why was it created?

So the UN was created after WWII to establish a governing body and quorum in which countries could discuss, debate, and establish limitations and international law so that another world war wouldn't occur. All of the involved allies joined the UN and slowly the UN gew adding dozens of other countries. Prior to the creation of the UN, several other smaller coalitions were created, one is a significant precursor to the formation of NATO and the UN, which was called the League of Nations. While the LoN didn't represent colonial people and countries under foreign rule (such as India and good deal of the world at the time), after WWII the League disestablished said colonies and started the United Nations. The UN had 51 nation states and it has grown to 193. The major players include the US, Russia (the former USSR), England, France, Switzerland, and China. Since it's inception the UN has acted with authority to impose sanctions to promote equality, fair trade, and to denounce war. The UN provides foreign aid to countries in need, people in distress, to natural disaster victims, and to victims of conflicts.

The UN has an established motto or credo which was written by the Persian Poet Saadi;
"The sons of Adam are limbs of each other, Having been created of one essence.
When the calamity of time affects one limb The other limbs cannot remain at rest.
If thou hast no sympathy for the troubles of others
Thou art unworthy to be called by the name of a human."

The foundation of the UN is to provide support for and enforcement of international laws that protect all people.

2)What was it's standards modeled after?

The UN established a Universal Bill of Rights which all people are entitled to. Drafted by major leaders of the time (Dr. Charles Malik (Lebanon), Alexandre Bogomolov (USSR), Dr. Peng-chun Chang (China), René Cassin (France), Eleanor Roosevelt (US), Charles Dukes (United Kingdom), William Hodgson (Australia), Hernan Santa Cruz (Chile), John P. Humphrey (Canada)) and both the Universal Bill of Rights and the processes that govern the UN are remarkably similar to the US. government.

Here is the whole of it (paraphrased):

Article 1 Right to Equality
Article 2 Freedom from Discrimination
Article 3 Right to Life, Liberty, Personal Security
Article 4 Freedom from Slavery
Article 5 Freedom from Torture and Degrading Treatment
Article 6 Right to Recognition as a Person before the Law
Article 7 Right to Equality before the Law
Article 8 Right to Remedy by Competent Tribunal
Article 9 Freedom from Arbitrary Arrest and Exile
Article 10 Right to Fair Public Hearing
Article 11 Right to be Considered Innocent until Proven Guilty
Article 12 Freedom from Interference with Privacy, Family, Home and Correspondence
Article 13 Right to Free Movement in and out of the Country
Article 14 Right to Asylum in other Countries from Persecution
Article 15 Right to a Nationality and the Freedom to Change It
Article 16 Right to Marriage and Family
Article 17 Right to Own Property
Article 18 Freedom of Belief and Religion
Article 19 Freedom of Opinion and Information
Article 20 Right of Peaceful Assembly and Association
Article 21 Right to Participate in Government and in Free Elections
Article 22 Right to Social Security
Article 23 Right to Desirable Work and to Join Trade Unions
Article 24 Right to Rest and Leisure
Article 25 Right to Adequate Living Standard
Article 26 Right to Education
Article 27 Right to Participate in the Cultural Life of Community
Article 28 Right to a Social Order that Articulates this Document
Article 29 Community Duties Essential to Free and Full Development
Article 30 Freedom from State or Personal Interference in the above Rights

The governance of the UN is made up of several sub quorums or organs, which are;  the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Secretariat, and the International Court of Justice.

Both this setup and the bill of rights are directly modeled after the US and it's structures. The General Assembly is head by a secretary, or president. The GA is like our senate, while the Security Council and the ECOSOC act like our House of Reps. The Secretariat acts much like the CIA as well as peacekeepers to promote diplomatic ties and peaceful resolution of conflicts. The International Court of Justice acts on the same principles as the US and have both a functional Triad court and Jury.

3)Why are the GOP and other extremists against the UN?
Now for the crux of the discussion. The GOP and many extremists argue against the UN and the US's involvement in the UN. Many proponents of the Fox News Bullshit Mountain continue to claim the UN is a new world order to it somehow threatening US sovereignty. For more on that check out the link below.
 http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/5-dumbest-right-wing-conspiracy-theories-about-united-nations

Contrary to the conspiracy theorist there is a bigger reason behind their hatred of the UN. It's the establishment of universal rights. As many right wing groups argue against equal treatment of various people, especially Gay Rights and the LGBTQ community and the right to marriage, the UN's universal rights (which mirror the US constitution on which it was based) insures the rights of the people in the US a second time. So as legal and political battles rage on, their international support of other countries following through with human rights violations are highlighted. This leaves them open to legal attack both from inside the US and from out.

Russia, which is one of the major UN signers is in the process of violating the human rights of several of their citizens. A notion that the current media are haven't yet picked up on except in brief.

Under both international law and US law, the LGBTQ community is guaranteed the same freedoms under the law as anyone else. Under the UN universal rights, marriage is defined as the marriage between two consenting adults. So the UN imposes a step beyond the supreme court in the US if laws are not passed that ensures the rights of the gay minority. This very fact along with the fact that the UN can produce resolutions to limit trade and embargo countries who violate the sanctions agreed upon by all UN members also scares the GOP and similar extremist groups.

So in an effort to dissuade their viewers from seeing the UN as a good thing, they radicalize the truth, twist facts and present the UN as an evil entity. This is all in their main goal of undermining the agreed upon authority of the UN and the sanctions therein that the UN establish.

An Answer to Russian Religio-Political Discrimination Against Homosexuals and Trnasexuals comes in the form of UN sanctions. The UN governing body (that is Russia's national peers) can bring Russia, Putin, and their politicians to International Court and charge them with human rights violations. To this day, Russia has committed illegal arrests, created discriminatory laws against homosexuals in the name of religious ideology that; violate freedom of expression and speech, freedom to education, right  to life, liberty and personal security, right to fair trial, right to equality, the right to free movement both in and out of the country, the right to peaceably assemble and protest, Freedom from Interference with Privacy, Family, Home and Correspondence, Right to Marriage and Family, Freedom of Belief and Religion, Right to Participate in the Cultural Life of Community, The Right to Equality, The right to being viewed as a person by the law, right from arbitrary arrest (in the case of people being accused of being gay who aren't), the right to be seen as innocent until proven guilty, Right to a Social Order that Articulates this Document, and Freedom from State or Personal Interference in the above Rights.

All in all, of the thirty Universal Rights which all UN member states must adhere to and agree to and insure to their people, sixteen (16) of those rights are currently being violated by Russia in regards to homosexuals.

The initial law that stated that homosexuals can't propagandize to kids about homosexuality violates EVERY SINGLE ONE of the rights listed above. The laws that further the punishment for violating that law, violate the innocent until proven guilty right, the right to fair trial, the right to free speech, the right to education, the right to participate in the social order and culture, it violates the rights of gays to freedom and liberty and personal security.

The proposed law that would take kids away from gay parents again violates ALL of the rights I've listed; as it is a summary charge against parents and sentence in one go without fair trial and the criminalization of a natural state of being.

In short I am advocating for the UN to bring charges against Russia for violating the personal rights of gay Russian Citizens and foreign visitors who are protected by the UN in which Russia resides as a standing member.

This is the clear answer to stopping the further discrimination of the LGBTQ in Russia or it will force Russia from the UN and all the support it supplies to Russia.

So I conclude this post dear readers. I am not sure what my next topic will be but look for it in the near future.

  1. This gets even more complicated for if you look on a world map in this clash of civilizations Russia, China, and the Islamic States see such gender differences as criminal or unholy... sometimes there is a call for the death penalty. I suppose the UN charter came at a time of a more optimistic era.

    1. This might be true, Leonard, but it is contrary to the fact that Russia is part of the UN and has agreed to it's charter and to abide by it's rules. By violating the charter and the established universal rights that the UN asserts to be true, they're involation of that charter and the UN. So, it is up to the UN to act and pressure Russia to reverse course.
